Estonian software firm Askend opens Oman subsidiary, starts first export project
Estonian software company Askend has established a subsidiary in Oman and launched its first export project there.
Askend described the Oman operation as a permanent base for work in the Middle East. “Our goal is not a one-off project, but a long-term presence and partnership in the Middle East region,” said CEO Mehis Sihvart. He said the company intends to apply experience gained developing complex information systems for Estonia’s public sector in international markets.
The subsidiary is Askend’s first permanent unit abroad. Oman is also the starting point for a wider plan to expand in the Gulf region, according to the company. Its first export project has begun, but Askend has not disclosed a delivery schedule or named the organisation commissioning the work.
Askend takes public-sector software experience abroad
Founded in 2016, Askend develops and modernises critical digital systems. It has offices in Tallinn and Tartu and a team of more than 100 professionals. The company says it has delivered more than 100 projects for over 50 partners in Estonia and internationally. Its work spans software development and IT consulting, with a focus on systems that organisations depend on for essential services.
“International markets are no longer looking just for developers, but for partners who can deliver end-to-end solutions and manage complex digital transformations from start to finish,” Sihvart said.
Other Estonian suppliers are pursuing overseas digital government projects too: Cybernetica recently signed a local partnership to enter the Philippine market.
