Estonia’s Milrem Robotics and Poland’s PGZ have signed an MoU to co-develop uncrewed ground vehicle technologies — deepening regional defence ties.
Estonian robotics firm Milrem Robotics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), Poland’s largest defence conglomerate, the company announced in a press release.
The agreement sets out a framework for joint work on advanced defence technologies, with a particular focus on payload integration for uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs) and the incorporation of Milrem’s autonomous systems into PGZ platforms. It is intended to serve as a foundation for future contracts covering R&D, production, deliveries, and maintenance.
New step in defence cooperation
For Milrem, the deal follows a string of high-profile partnerships. The Tallinn-based company — best known for its THeMIS UGV, now in service or part of active programmes in 20 countries, and deployed to Ukraine — has previously signed cooperation agreements with major European defence primes, and currently leads iMUGS2, a €55M EU-backed programme to develop scalable manned-unmanned architectures. Milrem also operates a dedicated Polish subsidiary, reflecting the strategic weight it places on the Central European market.
PGZ, for its part, spans nearly 70 companies across the full spectrum of defence production — from ammunition and armoured vehicles to radar systems and naval construction — making it one of the most vertically integrated defence groups on the continent.
“By combining Milrem Robotics’ leadership in autonomous ground systems with PGZ’s extensive manufacturing base and defence portfolio, we aim to foster innovation, enhance interoperability, and strengthen regional security capabilities,” said Milrem CEO Kuldar Väärsi.
Marcin Idzik, Vice President of PGZ added: “Collaboration with Milrem Robotics opens new opportunities for advancing innovative unmanned solutions within Poland’s defence ecosystem. Together, we aim to strengthen our industrial base and deliver cutting-edge capabilities to meet current and future defence challenges.”
The MoU has no binding procurement commitments at this stage, but signals growing alignment between Estonia and Poland at a time when both countries are accelerating defence investment.
