One of the critical prerequisites for creating a thriving tech hub is the ability to attract the world’s top talent. To compete in a global market, our talent pool must also be globally attractive, and our regional value proposition made loud and clear.

The big question is how we can turn the Nordic Tech Valley into a global talent powerhouse?

Deep tech is on the rise, but compared to the US and Asia, Europe is lagging behind in effective implementation of research results to businesses. The aggregated value of tech companies founded in Stockholm, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Tallinn is 376bn USD proving there is great potential, but are the Nordics doing their best fast enough?

We have gathered some of the brightest minds in the region to provide actionable insights on navigating these new heights.

Come and have a say-in!

15:00 – 15:15
Keynote speaker: How can we turn the Nordic Tech Valley into a global talent powerhouse?

Sille Kraam (Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications)

15:15 – 16:15
Panel: How can we maximise the deal flow of the most outstanding research and business prospects to the region?

All actors in an innovation ecosystem need talent. We will address the different viewpoints in two in-depth discussions.

– Universities and investors are looking for attractive deal flow, but quality deal flow depends on quality people.

– What attracts talent to universities?

– How can we pool the R&D resources and capital to enable future success stories faster?

– How are universities able to successfully spot potential deep tech ventures?

– How can we help with early-stage deep tech team formation?

– How are investors able to adequately assess deep tech deal flow?

– How can investors de-risk their portfolios by finding the right competencies to help the companies succeed?

– How long are the VCs ready to stay with the company, supplying know-how and follow-on investments to keep the company in the region?

– The chicken and egg question: what needs to come first, quality deep tech deal flow or capital? Should we put our bets on promising flagships or the numbers game?

Panellists: Inka Mero (Voima Ventures), Kari Sinivuori (Uute Scientific), Erki Mölder (Verge HealthTech Fund, Health Founders), Mart Maasik (UniTartu Ventures), Moderator Kristjan Vassil (University of Tartu).

16:15 – 17:15
Panel: How can we increase the pool of top international talent in the Nordic Tech Valley?

The more international the company and the more specific the technology being developed, the more difficult it is to find people with perfectly matched knowledge and experience to join the team.

– What will enable smoother strategic HR management?

– What makes talent choose the Nordic Deep Tech Valley over different prominent tech hubs worldwide?

– What are the main obstacles to talent coming to the Nordics?

– Are governments doing enough to ensure a sufficient talent pool from within the country, the region, and globally?

– How do VCs see the ease/difficulty of hiring international talent in their portfolio companies, especially deep tech?

– What about during high-pace scaling phases?

Panellists: Piret Talviste (Skeleton Technologies), Agne Sokolov (Jobbatical), Eve Peeterson (Startup Estonia), Marek Kiisa (NordicNinja), Moderator Markus Wartiovaara (Hanken Business Lab).
