On Sunday 7 June, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves will open the Estonian National Day at the EXPO Milano 2015. On the National Day, several activities characteristic to Estonia as well as the attempt to break the Guinness world record in kiiking will take place.
Toomas Hendrik Ilves to whom the Estonian flag will be handed over by the EXPORIDE cyclists after finishing their trip will open the National Day.
On the National Day, Estonian kiiking champion Kaspar Taimsoo will attempt to break the current world record of 7.08. Estonians are aiming at setting a new world record and breaking the current Guinness record (7.02).
On 7 June, the exhibition “Good Estonian Things” will be opened, displaying a symbiosis of various installations inspired by Estonian products, themes and ideas. Each nesting box has a separate theme, which is brought to the visitors through interesting videos, images and texts. For example, the exhibition includes boxes introducing Estonian music, song festival traditions, Estonian rye, cycling culture and the developed information society.
The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will also perform on the National Day, conducted by Tõnu Kaljuste. In addition, the Tallinn Music School Symphony Orchestra and the Harjumaa String Orchestra will give a performance on the National Day. Visitors will also be able to get acquainted with Estonian music through the performances of Eurovision Song Contest participants Elina Born and Stig Rästa as well as Eesti Pops Djs and Elephants From Neptune.
Several ministers and high visitors from Estonia and Italy will also participate in the Estonian National Day.
The Estonian pavilion will be open until 31 October and can be visited on weekdays from 10.00 to 23.00 140 countries are participating in the EXPO, introducing their culture, offering entertainment and knowledge on innovations as well as exciting experiences to visitors of all ages.
