U.S. broadcaster CNN chose the Estonian pavilion as one of the 24 most impressive pavilions at EXPO Milano 2015. Link to CNN article http://edition.cnn.com/2015/04/30/travel/expo-2015-pavilions/index.html
In the view of the head of the EXPO Estonian representation Andres Kask, it is a great recognition for Estonia. ”Our pavilion is self-built with one of the smallest budgets at the EXPO. We do not shine with glamour and grandeur, but regardless of competing with countries who have invested tens of millions of euros into the construction of their pavilions, we were able to make an impression. It is undoubtedly a great recognition for our architects – Kadarik Tüür Arhitektid.”
The Estonian pavilion titled “Gallery of_” is a three-storied gallery consisting of wooden nesting boxes, accessible to visitors via two entrances. The purpose of the shape of the Estonian pavilion is not the shape itself – it is a frame for the interior bringing the house to life. The building itself is multifunctional with each floor having its own exhibition and specific function. Visitors will be able to swing on energy generating swings hanging between the wooden boxes.
The keywords for the Estonian pavilion are Nordic creativity, clean food and nature, impressive design, world-class music headed by Arvo Pärt, and special Estonian people. All of the aforementioned aspects make Estonia worthy of participating in the Universal Exposition.
The Estonian pavilion will be open until 31 October and can be visited on weekdays from 10.00 to 23.00. The 140 participating countries will offer entertainment, new knowledge and excitement to visitors of all ages.
